Companies are not made of bricks, but people.

I participated in a discussion on LinkedIn recently. Kenneth Varga, CEO of Creating Customers, LLC commented on this question: “I would like to know the best approach to enter into the social media with a business?” Here’s an excerpt of Ken’s suggestion: Starting any successful business requires you to start with the customer first. You first need to know what group of people you want to serve. This group should be a group of people you can fall in love with. Study that group to find out what’s important to them around the topic of social media. Find out what conversations are going on in their minds and find out how to join that...

Brrr…cold calls?

Posted by Mel on Jun 15, 2011 in Coconect Blog, Customer Service, Relationship Marketing 101 | 0 comments

A friend recently said this about cold calls. (With combination of painful & disbelief expression) – “It must be very difficult and painful thing to do for people to do sales that way.” She was referring to a friend working as an insurance agent using cold calls for his business. Of course, he has his fair share of phone being slammed down, some brutal rejections. But cold calls being a numbers game, he did managed to secure some appointments after making a lot of calls. Make no mistake, he’s few years in the business and has existing clients. Question is: What happened to referrals from his clients? Wouldn’t it be more effective to...

Example of good email marketing from KLM

Posted by Mel on Aug 20, 2010 in Branding, Coconect Blog, Email marketing, Relationship Marketing 101 | 0 comments

Having had good experience (I can’t do anything about the crying baby throughout the 12+ hour flight though) with KLM’s customer service in KL with my booking- Ms. Francine (KLM, she’s someone you want to hold on to your team!), they continue to put a smile on my face. Isn’t it nice to be reminded that you were rewarded for your support to a company you’ve given your money/business too? Wouldn’t it make you want to continue dealing with them in future? All it takes are tiny details like these. The bonus is- with the help of technology, your efforts on these tiny details are reduced while efficiency increased. Sweet. Stay tuned while...

But building strong customer loyalty takes time and a very consistent effort on your part. If you aren’t ready for a customer loyalty program and the commitment that it takes, you’re better off continuing your mass marketing efforts and hold the loyalty effort until you’re ready to make it happen the right way the first time. Committing to a strong customer loyalty marketing effort requires three critical things: Make it mutually beneficial. You create loyalty through...

That can make us forget the basics on which all customer service is built. You may think, for example, that communicating to customers in a cordial way — whatever the medium — is rather obvious. Personalization- It’s always more fun when it’s about you!

Posted by Mel on Jun 10, 2010 in Coconect Blog, Marketing, Relationship Marketing 101 | 0 comments

Reason why I love personalization- It’s all about you! Not bordering on selfish reasons like the world revolves around you & only you, no no no. But making your space…yours. Making communication relate-able…to you. And hence when companies starts to take notice & the effort to know You- as an individual, not a number; that’s when the fun starts! Ain’t it more fun to receive a personalized card with your name printed on it wishing you Happy Birthday, ain’t it sweeter to receive a mailer where the contents are targeted to your likings? Ain’t it nice to be understood? Me? I love it! Oh yes, in case you didn’t know,...
